the Setting
Stair
is really an area rather than a village containing the Inn, a delightful
country church, and a sprinkling of lovely country cottages and
residencies. Stair nestles at the bottom of a glen beside the river
Ayr, set in the idyllic surroundings of the East Ayrshire countryside.
Stair has a number of attractions that are of historical interest.
Stair House built in the 17th century is one of the loveliest houses
in Scotland. It has links with Robert Burns.
Its interior is illustrated in the character of the many Scottish
traits found in houses of this era.
A good vantage point to view its beautiful exterior is from Stair
Bridge.
We are only 7 miles East from the town of Ayr and Prestwick Airport
- and 4 miles west of Mauchline.
The Inn was built around 1700 and was a place for farmers to meet
and sell their cattle, this was before the county market was built
in Ayr.
