Stair is an area rather than a village containing the Inn and a church. Stair nestles at the
bottom of a glen beside the river Ayr.
It is only 7 miles East from the town of Ayr and 4 miles west of Mauchline.
The Inn was built around 1700 and was a place for farmers to meet and sell their cattle, this was
before the county market was built in Ayr.
On the ground floor there is the bar and a 45 restaurant. The bedrooms are located on the first floor.
The Inn is refurbished but has retained the old country inn atmosphere. In the bar area you can
have your meal sitting by the log fire (during the winter) or if you prefer you can eat in the
restaurant.
The rooms have country pine furniture and terracotta coloured duvet covers.
We are listed in the new Hidden Inns of South West Scotland and are described as having 3 star
city hotel rooms in a country Inn.
We are also the only 3 star graded Inn, in the Ayrshire area Tourist Board
